Professional Consultation, advice and support

All our therapists are experienced in working with the professional networks around children, especially school and social care staff.
The therapists can offer regular slots to school staff and professionals to help them think through any challenges they may be experiencing with the children and families they work with and support.
Our School Partnership model allows for therapists to offer this consultation and advice much more informally during ‘corridor chats’ which is often most helpful! We find that professional consultation, advice and support works best when the therapist has established relationships with school staff and is in the school on a weekly basis.
Therapeutic ideas are integrated into these conversations to help school staff and professionals gain insight and understanding of the child’s mental and emotional difficulties, attachment dynamics, and other stresses on their lives. This can have a positive effect on how school staff and professionals view that child, increase empathy and learn strategies that support their teaching and manage difficult behaviour.
It can also help staff understand when it would be appropriate to signpost to other services and address certain themes with their whole class such as loss, separation anxiety, bullying and transition.
Professional consultation and advice can be offered individually or within reflective practice groups.
