Groupwork

Group work with Children
Therapeutic group work with children takes place in the child’s school setting. The therapist would collaborate with an appropriately identified member of the school staff team to plan and deliver a group programme. This would be tailored to the needs of the individual children in that group and would often have a common theme such as loss, transition difficulties, family change, anxiety or bereavement.
Therapeutic groups can offer a structured and predictable space where feelings and experiences can be shared and understood in an emotionally safe way.
Group work is well documented to enable peer support, build empathy and reduce feelings of isolation for children.
Group work with Adults
Therapeutic group work with adults can be offered to parents / carers and school staff, as required. Groups are offered in a community setting which is most accessible to the members of the group or can be facilitated online. Again, the groups can be tailored to the needs of the group members and would often have a therapeutic focus such as attachment, responding empathically to children, understanding your own experiences and feelings in your relationships with children.
Therapeutic groups can offer a space for both personal and professional reflection and support continued professional development.

‘Positive, warm, empathetic, supportive, informative’
‘It is easy to talk through our child’s challenges, the impact on our family, and how we can work together to support our child. We felt respected and understood and the therapist was genuinely interested in helping our child’
